Local residents say they see Burmese army’s fighters, believed to be China-made Hongdu JL-8 fighter jet, used Chinese airspace to attack on KIO positions near Laja-yang on Dec 28. Many Kachins resented when China allowed Burmese army to use Chinese soil to attack formal KIO headquarter in Na Hpaw – Pajau in 1987.
A fierce battle took place between a KIA combined force and 400 Burmese army soldiers between Na Lung and Laja-yang near KIO administrative capital Laiza on Dec 28. The battle began at 5 pm and lasted for 4 hours. No casualties have been reported from both sides so far.
