Burmese Army Storms Hpang Hka Kung IDP Camp, Mortar Shells Fell Near Mung Lai Hkyet IDP Camp

Burmese Army troops on Tuesday stormed into an IDP camp in Hpang Hka Kung in Bhamo Township and questioned IDP families about their family members and their whereabouts. Most IDP families in Hpang Hka Kung camp are from Mung Ding Pa area.

Similarly, Sar Maw-based 105th Light Infantry Battalion roamed into an IDP camp in Sar Maw Kachin Baptist Church compound, interrogated IDPs, and ransacked their properties on Sept 18.

On Sept 25, three rounds of 81 mm mortar shells fell near Mung Lai Hkyet IDP camp, located in Woi Chyai village in Laiza area, at around 5:30 am. The mortar shells fell not far from a primary school, a child care center and a church building in Woi Chyai village where the IDP camp is located.

Lama Zau Raw, head of KIO’s IDPs and Refugees Relief Committee (IRRC),  said IDPs rushed towards Laiza after they heard the sound of mortar shells falling near their temporary shelters. He said, “A similar incident of mortar shell attack occurred some weeks ago.”
