Offenses continue even as Ruili talks underway

8 members KIO delegation led by Education Department head Sara Kaba Sumlut Gam and Burmese government’s Union Level Peace Making Group led by U Aung Thaung is meeting at Jing Chent Hotel in Ruili City in Yunnan province on March 8, 2012 at 12:30pm. This week’s talk between KIO and Burmese government is the third since last November. The meeting will continue until Saturday, March 10.

Burmese Army’s offenses continue even during the talk between two sides. About 100 Burmese soldiers led by Col. Tun Tun Yi under Lashio-based North Eastern Regional Command launched an attack on KIA’s 4th Brigade area in Manton township, Northern Shan State.  Front line sources reported that Burmese Army soldiers are attacking and torturing civilians even both sides are holding talks.

Burmese Army column led by Col. Nyi Nyi Tun gathered Yawngbang villagers on March 7 and Manhkyeng villagers on March 8 and interrogated them. Villagers were reportedly beaten and tortured by Burmese soldiers.
