Battles rage as Burma Army troops approach KIA’s 34th Battalion headquarters

A series of battles took place between KIA’s 34th Battalion troops and a combined force of BA’s 252nd LIB and 253rd LIB troops at Nhkum Kahtawng junction in Mongmit township on May 8 beginningt 12:15 pm. After Nhkum Kahtawng encounters, the two sides engaged at Pyaw Dawng Kawng on the same day at around 4 pm.

KIA sources said despite recent announcement by Burmese military to extend its own unilateral ceasefire period, BA’s 252nd LIB and 253rd LIB troops under Pakokku-based 101st Light Infantry Division advanced into KIA’s 34th Battalion headquarters area early this week.
