Landmines injure civilians in Nam Mate and Kawng Hka

On August 2 at around 12:00 p.m., Mrs. Tan Tsing (age 52) and her two sons, Yan Myu Aung (age 23) and Wei Phyu Kyaw (age 20) travelling on 2 motorcycles got severely injured when one of the motorcycles hit a landmine on the road to Nam Mate gold mine in Hpakant township. Wei Phyu Kyaw sustained most serious injuries and has been receiving treatment at Lung Tung hospital. No one has claimed responsibility for the landmine so far.

On the same day in northern Shan state, a landmine planted under an abandoned broken car exploded by itself hitting a local Chinese man’s motorcycle on the road near Kawng Hka village in Muse township. The man was not harmed by the explosion, the KLN has learnt. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
