BGF soldiers beat up a KBC youth leader

A group of BGF No (1003) soldiers who have been stationed at Lumyang village in Sadung area beat up Mading Zaidan Bawm Ying, youth leader of Wai Maw Kachin Baptist Association, on July 31. Another baptist minister, Sara La Gyi Naw Awn of Sadung Pa Baptist Church, was slapped and punched twice by the soldiers. 

According to the local sources, BGF No. (1003) soldiers led by Shichyang Zi Ki destroyed some fences as they conduct land clearing in the village. Mading Bawm Ying and La Gyi Naw Awng on behalf of the villagers stepped up to tell BGF soldiers to stop destroying fences. The BGF soldiers then beat up the youth leader and slapped the batpist minister. 

Mading Ying Bawm was detained, severely beaten and only released the next day by the BGF soldiers. Upon release from detention, he was taken to Myitkyina General Hospital. 

All Kachin Student Union (AKSU) released a statement demanding for the immediate release of Mading Ying Bawm and the BGF soldiers who beat him up be brought to justice.

Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) said on its facebook page that the problem between BGF soldiers and the KBC’s Wai Maw Association youth leader was caused by misunderstanding. The two sides have settled the case on good terms, the post said.
