In eastern Kachin state, a battle took place between KIA’s 7th Battalion troops and Burmese army troops at Shara Rum post in Sumprabum Township on Jan 16 at 5 pm. The battle lasted for about an hour.
On Jan 18, KIA’s 7th Battalion troops and Burmese army’s 138th Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) troops engaged in a series of battles at Nhtan Zup village and Lawt Mai village in Sumprabum Township.
In western Kachin state, KIA troops under 2nd Brigade and about 50 soldiers from Burmese army’s 251st LIB fought a battle at a location near Yuzana site no. 33 in Danai Township on Jan 18 at 1:30 pm. The two sides again engaged in a series of battles on Jan 20.
KIA sources said several mortar rounds were fired by Burmese army troops in repeated provocations in western Kachin state. N-Ga-based Burmese army’s 86th LIB troops provoked KIA 14th Battalion troops by firing 2 mortar rounds on Kadung Pa on Jan 14 at 12:45 am.
On Jan 15, Burmese army troops currently stationed at Ngapyawtaw fire 2 artillery rounds and Jam Bu Bum-based troops fired 5 rounds of 81 mm mortar on Hka Mut Hka and Ting Kawk Hka. Nban Hka-based Burmese army troops fired 3 rounds of 81 mm mortar on Lapu Hka on Jan 18, and another 3 mortar rounds on Lapu Hka Ja Maw on Jan 19. Burmese army troops currently stationed at Mung Hkawm government school fired 4 artillery rounds on KIA positions at Hka U Yup and Lapu Hka on Jan 20 at 12:28 am.
Local sources reported that Burmese military helicopters have been transporting ammunition to Danai in western Kachin state in the past week.
In southeastern Kachin state, KIA’s 27th Battalion troops launched attacks on Burmese army troops at Nam Hka Bum junction on Jan 14 and at Nam Hka Bum on Jan 15. The two sides battled at Nam Hka Bum on Jan 16 at around 9:30 am.
