Skirmishes Continue in Southern Kachin State

A battle took place between KIA’s 12th Battalion troops and a Tatmadaw unit at a location between Lahkum Hkyet and Man Jak in southern Kachin State on Oct 29 at 10:30 am. KIA sources said Burmese army troops currently based at Man Gau and Ba Hpang fired 4 artillery rounds on Man Jak during the battle.

On Oct 27, Burmese army’s 236th Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) troops currently based at Maji Kung Kaji fired a 81 mm mortar round and 237th LIB troops currently based at Bang Htan’s Roman Catholic Mission compound fired five 60 mm mortar rounds on Hkang Htan Hkyet and Hka Hpawk Hkyet. On the same day, Burmese army troops based at Kai Htik fired a round of 105 mm howitzer on KIA’s 27th Battalion position at N-jung Bum at 4:20 am.

On Oct 24, Burmese army’s 105th LIB troops currently based at Mai Sak Kawng fired a 60 mm mortar round on KIA’s 1st Battalion position at Wa Baw around 4:15 am. The same troops fired 2 rounds of 60 mm mortar shells on Wa Baw on Oct 23 at 1:20 pm.

In western Kachin State, a combined force of 100 soldiers from Burmese army’s 235th LIB and Pyithutsits arrived in Nam Lik Ja Maw and fired four 60 mm mortar rounds on KIA’s 11th Battalion position at Mada Bum on Oct 23 at 2 pm.

A combined force of KIA’s 6th Battalion troops and MKM troops ambused Burmese army troops on the way between Hkrai Run and Pya Ung on Oct 16 and at Ja Hta Kadawng on Oct 17. A local source said Burmese army troops randomly fired at by-passers after being attacked by local militias injuring a civilian in his leg. The civilian, Hpakawn Hpau Min, was later taken to Ka-maing General Hospital.
