Villagers Flee as Battle Rages Between KIA and Burmese Army

A battle took place between KIA’s 20th Battalion troops and an unknown Burmese army unit at Kumtsai Yang village, located on Ledo road in western Kachin State, on September 24 at 5:55 pm.

A local source said Burmese army troops fired several mortar shells on Kumtsai Yang village from Kamaing Tactical Command post. The source said Kumtsai Yang villagers are fleeing from the fighting and taking refuge at the village church.

In Danai Township, KIA’s 2nd Brigade troops encountered about 40 Burmese troops reportedly from 297th Light Infantry Battalion at Mya Han field in Ting Kawk village on September 22 at 12:33. The skirmish lasted for about 15 minutes.

Similarly, KIA’s 14th Battalion troops fought Burmese army’s 86th Light Infantry Battalion troops near R.C.M. prayer mountain, located between Nam Hpyet and Ting Kawk in Danai Township, on September 18 at 4:15 pm. KIA source said Burmese army troops fired several 60 mm mortar shells on KIA positions from their base in Ting Kawk village.

In Hpakant Township, Burmese army’s 235th LIB troops fired at least 10 rounds of 60 mm mortars on KIA’s 6th Battalion positions in Ja Ra Yang and Nyaung Pin on Sept 18 at 7:45 am.

In sourthern Kachin State, Burmese army currently based at Kai Htik fired 3 mortar rounds on Bau Noi area and 3 mortar rounds on Hka Pra on September 21 at 3:35 am.

In northern Shan State, KIA’s 36th Battalion troops launch an attack on Burmese army troops reportedly from 214th Light Infantry Regiment at Wa Kawng bridge, located between Loi Sa and Wing Seng, on September 19 at 3:40 pm.

On September 16, KIA’s 36th Battalion troops ambushed Burmese army troops under 11th Light Infantry Division at a location between Nam Tau and Kawng Jung village in Muse Township at around 11:30 pm.
