Battles Continue Unabated in Kachin Region

Battles continue unabated across Kachin region this week as Burma’s state counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi prepares a trip to Myitkyina.

A battle took place between KIA’s 27th Battalion troops and Burmese army troops under 601st Light Infantry Regiment at Dum Hpawng Kadit, located south of Sindi Bum in Mansi Township, on March 25 at 12:40 p.m. The two sides encountered as Burmese troops entered KIA’s 27th Battalion territory from Madang Yang Sha-it Pa, said a KLN frontline source.

KLN’s frontline sources reported Burmese army troops provoked several KIA frontline posts this week by firing mortar shells, machine guns and assault rifles.

Burmese army’s 47th Light Infantry Battalion troops fired a 80 mm mortar round on a KIA position located between Hku Bung and Sin Di Bum on March 23 at 2 a.m., and another round on Hka Pra at around 4 am.

Burmese army troops under 141st Light Infantry Battalion entered Mang Dawng village on March 23 at around 5 p.m. and indiscriminately fired 6 rifle rounds on surrounding homes.

Similarly, Burmese army troops currently based at Nawng Lung Kawng Ra fired 10 rounds of gunfire on KIA’s 14th Battalion’s Mai Sak post on March 23 at 4:30 p.m.

Burmese army troops currently based at Sut Len Pa fired a 60 mm mortar round and small guns on KIA’s 11th Battalion positions on March 22 at 7:30 p.m.

On the same day at around 4 p.m. in Mansi Township, two Burmese military’s attack helicopters fired with several rockets and machine gun on log trucks near Hka Pra Yang village.

In area close to KIA’s headquarters Laiza, KIA’s headquarters security forces and Burmese army troops under 271st Light Infantry Battalion engaged in a battle at Hka Nu Hka, located between Hka U village and Ja Ing Yang village on March 21 at 1 p.m., reported a KLN frontline source.

In northern Shan State, KIA’s 36th Battalion troops engaged in a battle against Burmese army troops under Inndine-based 11st Light Infantry Division (LID) at a location between Man Kawng and Man Pying village in Mong Paw area on March 25 at 6:30 a.m.

On previous day, a combined force of KIA’s 36th and 38th Battalions troops fought Burmese army’s 11st LID troops near Man Kawng village on March 24 at 8:40 am.
