Burmese Troops Ransack and Loot Civilian Properties and Food Supplies

In northern Shan State approximately at 12:30 p.m. on January 20, Burmese army troops belonging to 99th Light Infantry Regiment reportedly interrogated civilians from Mung Lwi village whether KIA, TNLA or SSPP/SSA troops had passed through their village.  Even though the villagers kept assuring they neither saw KIA, TNLA nor SSPP/SSA troops coming their way, Burmese troops held them for two hours while some other troops ransacked and looted food supplies and properties belonging to the villages, local sources reported KLN.

Similarly, Burmese army troops reportedly removed tin roofs from IDPs’ temporary shelters in Zai Awng IDP Camp in Waimaw Township and took to their temporary bases. IDPs from Zai Awng Camp fled their camp in last week of December as mortar shells fell near the camp site.
