In Kachin State, south of Hpaudaw in KIA’s 5th Brigade area, its 3rd Battalion troops engaged Burmese army troops advancing towards Uga Bum on January 2 at around 10:00 a.m., a frontline source reported.
On the same day from 10:15 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Burmese army troops based at Kagam, Nhkram and Point 1103 reportedly fired over 200 artillery rounds towards areas surrounding KIA 3rd Battalion’s Nga Gyang, Sama Krung, Law Hpyu and Hpaudaw outposts. In the evening beginning at 5:00 p.m., eight Burmese fighter jets coming from Myitkyina’s Nam Pawng Airfield carried out 4 separate aerial assaults against KIA’s Hpaudaw outpost.
Since January 2 morning, Burmese army troops based at Dabak, Dinga, Nhkram, Point 1103 and those active along Sama road reportedly fired several heavy artillery rounds at Nga Gyang Bum and Sama Krung outposts being fended by KIA troops from 3rd Battalion under 5th Brigade. Clashes erupted between KIA and Burmese army troops advancing from Hpau Daw at around 1:00 p.m., reported a source from KIA’s 3rd Battalion.
On January 1 at around 1:10 p.m., clashes were reported between KIA and Burmese army troops in Wu Ga Bum area north of Daga. On the same day at around 6:30 p.m., Burmese army troops active along Nhkram Bum reported fired 9 heavy mortar shells at KIA 3rd Battalion’s positions in Nga Gyang Bum and Sama Krung, according to the source.
In northern Shan State, KIA’s 8th and 9th Battalion troops under 4th Brigade ambushed Burmese military reinforcements coming from Lashio at Jamlau on Lashio-Muse road on January 3 at around 7 a.m., and again at Nam Um around 9:00 a.m.
On January 2, KIA’s 9th Battalion troops battled an unknown Burmese army unit advancing from Kutkai on the road between Kutkai and Muse at around 7:30 p.m.
Burmese army troops which have reached Ba Leng reportedly fired several heavy artillery rounds at TNLA troops based at Loi Hkam Bum on January 2 at 10 a.m.
