Burmese military fighter jets Friday dropped bombs and fired rockets on frontline posts under KIA’s 3rd Battalion, said a KIA officer.
The officer said KIA’s Bum Sen post, Lawq Hkum post, Lai Hpawng post, Tang Lai post, and Mai Saw post were pounded by three fighter jets between 2 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.
Similarly, the army’s ground troops fired five artillery rounds today on KIA’s Lai Hpawng post between 6:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. Artillery shelling on Lai Hpawng post resumed around 1:30 pm till sunset, reported a frontline source.
On December 22 beginning at around 2:00 p.m., Burmese army troops based in Dabak and Katsu areas reportedly fired several dozens of mortar shells towards KIA positions at Lai Hpawng Bum being fended by 3rd Battalion under 5th Brigade. On the same day after hovering over KIA’s positions at around 9:30 in the morning, two Burmese military fighter jets later launched airstrikes beginning at 3:35 p.m., according to a frontline source. KIA troops engaged in a battle against Burmese army troops from 56th LIB, 255th LIB, and 260th LIB on the same day at Dingga Jawng Kawng.
On December 21 between 8:55 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Burmese army troops from Dabak and Point 1103 fired over 250 heavy mortar rounds towards KIA positions at Lai Hpawng Bum post On the same day in concert with the artillery units, Burmese military attack helicopters and fighter jets also carried out a series of sorties against KIA troops at Lai Hpawng: 2 fighter jets at 9:00 a.m., 4 fighter jets at 9:20 a.m., 6 fighter jets at 11:00 a.m., another 2 fighter jets at 11:20 a.m., 2 attack helicopters at 1:15 p.m., another 2 attack helicopters at 1:35 p.m., 2 fighter jets at 2:45 p.m., and 2 attack helicopters at 3:15 p.m. respectively. From 2:15 p.m.- 5:00 p.m., deadly clashes erupted between KIA troops and Burmese army ground troops making their advance following the airstrikes, according to a frontline source.
In northern Shan State, KIA’s 9th Battalion troops battled Burmese army troops at a location between Maw Tawng and Mile (105) on December 22 at 8:25 a.m. Following the battle, Burmese army troops had indiscriminately shelled surrounding its base with 105 mm howitzer.
Fighting broke out between KIA troops from 9th Battalion under 4th Brigade and Burmese army troops at Nawng Seng, an abandoned village near Di Ma beginning 8:10 a.m. on December 21.
In KIA’s 6th Brigade area, KIA troops from 36th Battalion today fought Burmese army troops advancing from Shwe Zin Wan Bum beginning 1:50 pm. Burmese army artillery units fired several 105 mm mortar shells to support their attacking troops, the source reported. The two sides had similar encounter on December 21 at around 1:00 p.m.
