Burmese Military Helicopters Launch Airstrikes on Da Wai Village

Burmese army reportedly attacked KIA forces with helicopter gunships during a firefight in Da Wai village in Shwegu Township on December 8 at around 3:00 p.m. The KLN has also learnt that Da Wai residents had already deserted the village before the helicopter attacks.

Fighting broke out between troops from Burmese army’s 228th Light Infantry Battalion and KIA’s 5th Battalion under 8th Brigade on December 7, due to Burmese army offensives in a KIA position in Da Wai village.

On December 8 at approximately 7:30 a.m., KIA troops from 5th Battalion recaptured a post near the village they had abandoned a day earlier. On the same day, the retreating Burmese army troops regrouped and launched several attacks in the morning and afternoon from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.,a KIA frontline source reported.

A source from Hopin township In Kachin State reported that a Burmese army column was seen heading towards KIA’s 5th Brigade territory via Bo-thee-kone route.
