Kachin Civilians Held a Demonstration Against Attempted Rape and Murder

About 1000 Kachin civilians on Wednesday held a demonstration to protest against the rape of an elderly woman on April 13, 2015 at Num Lang village in Bhamo Township. The protest was led by the leaders of Kachin Baptist Convention. The Kachin leaders demanded justice for the elderly woman and asked Tatmadaw (Burmese Army) not to commit such a horrendous crime again.

Zaw Myo Aye, a private from Burmese Army’s 438th Light Infantry Regiment, tried to rape and murdered a 72-year-old elderly woman who was confined to bed with chronic illness for years in her own house. Two women heard the struggles and stopped the private from raping and killing the elderly woman.
