KIO Delegation Meets With Burma President and Vice President

KIO delegation led by General Secretary Dr. La Ja and Maj. General Gun Maw met Burma’s President Thein Sein and Vice President Dr. Sai Mauk Kham on Mar 14-15.

U Thein Sein held bilateral talks with KIO delegates at his farmhouse in Naypyitaw on Mar 16. Dr. Sai Mauk Kham hosted a dinner on Sunday night at the Hotel Zone in Naypyitaw.

The details of the discussion between Burmese government officials and KIO delegation are not known at this time. Kachin leaders said they made an informal visit to Naypyitaw on their way to Yangon for the UPWC-NCCT meeting but the Burmese officials said the meeting was arranged as early as last December.

The eight-member KIO delegation includes Dr. Lahkyen La Ja, Gen. Sumlut Gun Maw, Sumlut Gam, Col. Maran Zau Tawng, Col. Lahpai La, Col. Hpunggan Hkun Nawng, Col. Wawhkyung Sin Wa and Lt. Col Gawlu La Aung.

Burmese government officials who attended the meetings with KIO delegates were Minister Aung Min, Minister Thein Zaw, Lt-Gen Thet Naing Win, Minister Khin Ye, Minister Ohn Myint and others.

Members of Peace-talks Creation Group (PCG) and Myanmar Peace Center (MPC) were also in attendance.
